RTCC v Bohemians at Ferme Park

Sunday 24th August 2014
(40 overs)
Bohemians 220-7
RTCC 221-2
RTCC won by 8 wickets

The sacred honour of posting the post match analysis has been bestowed upon myself due to the nature of the Tavs triumph, so apologies for the lack of expected eloquence!

The Tavs were over prescribed and due to the arch enemy (bohemiens) being a man short, I was drafted in last minute to make up the numbers for the opposition.

I'm afraid I can't speculate as to who won the toss, however when I arrived Martin and Raj were opening the bowling, Martin keeping it extremely tight down one end, while Raj chipped away with 2 for 25 from 8.

Wickets were taken at regular intervals, although their no. 3 (complete with replica England shirt and headband), boshed his way to 73 before being clean bowled by Dave T, who finished with 3-41 from 8. (You may see where this is going...)

A sharpish 44* from the bohemians no. 7 with supporting cast led them to 220 - 7 from the prescribed 40 overs, with one a piece for maz and Andy p, and a couple of very sharp stumpings from Hugh Prior.

So the Tavs chasing a daunting 221 to win from 40, opened the batting with Andy P and Raj. I may have opened the bowling for the Bohemians, but please don't hold it agains me. Raj was unfortunate to fall to a catch at square leg after being struck on the wrist by a frankly cynical shy at the stumps, where he happened to be occupying the space between fielder and stumps. This only served to bring Dave to the crease, who with Andy P compiled the runs in a devastating manner.

Untroubled by the bohemians attack, Dave and Andy P compiled a partnership of 150 with all corners of the ground being peppered. First came Dave's 50, then Andy's. Fantastic knocks equally.

Without ever really looking in trouble, Andy chipped a catch to the Bohemians skip at mid on for 72, bringing Hugh to the crease with the score at 164-2 from 25.

Hugh's guard of middle & leg was the only bump in the road as he calmly helped Dave to his hundred and beyond.

The majestic Tavs knocking off the 220 with 9 overs to spare left us all fairly quiet at the bar. Not much to analyse really. Just a great days cricket with some fantastic performances. And no dispute as to where the captains tankard was going, 123* is fairly hard to argue against.

That makes it 5 on the bounce for the railway! And the first Sunday win against Bohemians I believe (I should play for them more often).

Back to the usual punditry next week, fear not. Well played Tavs.
